Missoula Police Investigating Aggravated Burglary, Sexual Assault Near University of Montana
A press release from the Missoula Police Department sent Saturday evening warned University of Montana area residents of an early morning burglary on 6th Street.
The warning read:
Early this morning at about 3:30AM, Missoula Police Officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress on S. 6th St. E. A resident there reported that an unknown suspect had entered the home and “raped” her roommate; an adult female. Officers searched the residence and surrounding area but the suspect was not located.
A University of Montana text message also went out to students and staff at 5:23 p.m. It read:
UM Alert Early this morning a male entered a house in the University area and committed a sexual assault. Take safety precautions, see email for contact numbers.
The suspect was described as a male with a thin build, wearing "nicer" grey or black athletic pants, as well as a sports jacket with an emblem on the breast pocket. The emblem was reported to possibly have a "P" in it.
Missoula Police Sgt. Travis Welsh said the victim of the assault stated the suspect warned her that he had a knife.
