I've never heard of "prescription trails".  But apparently it's a thing - and we have some in Missoula that are about to get upgrades.  It pretty much works like this......a doctor could prescribe going for a walk on one of the recognized trails - they're short and safe walking trails that can help people with issues like diabetes, depression or high blood sugar.

AARP is giving Missoula Parks and Rec a $10,000 grant to expand the local Trails Rx program.  They'll use the money to enhance two trails, one at McCormick park and one at Fort Missoula Regional Park.  Improvements will include adding more benches to allow people to take more breaks during walks.

The work should be done by early November and won't cause the parks to be closed while the upgrades take place.
