Montana can greet 2016 with lower gas prices. According to Gas Buddy Petroleum Analyst Will Spear, Montana’s average gas prices are finally on par with the national average.

"It seems like it has been a long wait, but Montana has finally gotten under two dollars a gallon, sitting, right now at $1.98, which is right at the national average," Spear said.

With 2015 in the rear view mirror, Gas Buddy has tallied just how much money was saved by consumers with a year of lower prices.

"2015 was a great year, Spear said. "If you look at what motorists were saving compared to 2014, the national dollar amount saved came out to about $134 billion, that shows you just how low prices got last year and how much money motorists were able to save as a result."

As for 2016, Spear predicts prices should stay low and keep falling, at least until March.
