Another government shutdown is upon us but what does that mean for Montanans?

According to WalletHub they took each state’s share of federal jobs and contracts to the percentage of kids covered by the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). You can find out more in the link and the methodology used.

Unfortunately Montana ranks in the top 10 of MOST affected states. Mainly due to the high number of kids on the CHIP program. You can see that we rank 7th overall and aid is one of the first places that suffers and in our case the child healthcare aid program, among others.

Hopefully this shutdown does not last long. Some people ask how the government shuts down? I grabbed this from www.politifact.com

What is a shutdown?

Federal government shutdowns occur when spending bills expire, and Congress and the president find themselves at an impasse. But there is some leeway to continue certain federal activities deemed essential.
