Most Montana kiddos will be out of school this coming Thursday and Friday, October 18-19, for the Montana Educators Conference.

A big benefit for young hunters on those two days is the Montana deer-only youth hunt for youngsters age 12-15, just ahead of Montana's general big game opening day October 20.  Of course there are some rules and procedures that need to be followed.

The hunt is open to legally licensed 12-15 year-olds who have completed hunter education and who are accompanied by a non-hunting adult who is at least 18 years of age.  It's also open to properly certified and legally licensed apprentice hunters age 10-15 who are accompanied by a non-hunting adult "mentor" age 21 or older.

Please remember this hunt is for deer only. Elk hunting is prohibited and all regulations still apply. There are a few more tips and suggestions on the Youth Opportunity page of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks website.

Be safe! Wear lots of orange! Have a great time and good luck!
