One person is dead and several more were injured after an accident in interstate 90 east of Missoula yesterday afternoon. Montana Highway Patrol trooper Andrew Novak related details of the fatal crash.

“A blue Ford Ranger was westbound on I-90,” Novak began. “As it entered the lane closure due to construction, it was trying to accelerate ahead of another vehicle. The 17 year-old driver lost control and struck several orange traffic barriers. He over steered and then over corrected and went into the median.”

At that point Novak said the truck entered the eastbound lanes of traffic.

“The Ranger rotated counterclockwise as it came out of the median, went airborne, and entered the eastbound side of the freeway,” he said. “The Ranger then struck the left side of a Class ‘C’ motorhome. The motorhome continued eastbound for about half a mile. The motorhome’s driver sustained life-threatening injuries and a passenger in the motorhome was pronounced deceased on scene. Of the six others in the motorhome, three were injured. The driver of the Ford Ranger was taken to Community Medical Center, treated and released.”

The Montana Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash.
