29 year-old Gerald Schwegel appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Friday charged with felony sexual intercourse without consent, trespassing and criminal mischief.

According to court documents, the incident occurred in June, when the defendant allegedly broke into his former girlfriend's apartment and raped her.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mark Handelman asked Judge Landee Holloway to hold Schwegel on $25,000 bond.

"The defendant in this matter has sexual intercourse with his girlfriend without consent, and when she thereafter broke up with him he tried to break into her apartment while he was highly intoxicated," Handelman said. "There have been numerous Facebook messages to the victim confirming the incident. He also has domestic violence and indecent exposure convictions in his past, and his behavior appears to be escalating."

Handelman said the defendant was placed on GPS monitoring, but removed his monitor.

After hearing comments from Handelman and a representative from the probation and parole office, Judge Holloway set bail for Schwegel at $75,000, three times the amount originally requested, and he was taken back to the jail,
