The Humane Society Mega Match-a-thon was a huge success! The goal of the match-a-thon was to get 125 pets adopted in two days. An amazing 132 pets were adopted and not just pets from the Missoula shelter. A total of 87 dogs and cats from nine other shelters were also brought in for adoption. Some of the dogs adopted had been in the shelter for over two years and several of the cats were born in the shelter. Here are a few adoption stories.

A woman took her daughter in to pick out a puppy, but it turned out the mom really wanted a cat. The mom was still mourning from the death of her old cat two years prior, but fell in love when she met black and white cat named Ratchet.

A senior wanted a senior friend and went in to adopt a 9 year old Shih Tzu named Noodle.

A family came in to get a friend for their cat to have companionship.

Another couple, who adopted a dog from Camp Husky, wanted to save a life so they specifically wanted a cat that had been at the shelter a long time. They found a perfect match and adopted a feisty 6 year-old cat named Georgie.

A family who had previously lived in an apartment, and had just moved into a house, decided they were ready for a puppy. Their little boy was so excited to get his first dog.

The humane society didn’t open until noon, but a very excited couple showed up at 8 a.m. anxiously awaiting the adoption of a specific puppy named Radar. The man offered to help with other adoptions and signed up to be a volunteer. He was there for nine hours just helping and at 5 p.m. he and his girlfriend adopted their puppy.

After the death of an owner, a cat named Dusty was surrendered to the shelter. Dusty ended up very sick and almost died. She needed round the clock vet care and was even fostered with a vet tech until her health improved. A family friend who knew Dusty’s previous owner, and had watched her when the old owner was on vacation, came in to adopt Dusty.

As you can see there are many different reasons why people adopted pets. The reason is not important, but the fact that they adopt is. These animals were very lucky to finally get the love they deserve, but there are still more out there looking for a great home. Consider adoption the next time you’re looking for a pet.
