If it is one thing that I have learned about video games, is that they make you worse at doing the same thing in real life. For example, playing drums in Rock Band, is nothing like playing a real drum set. Shooting bad guys with a sniper rifle in Call of Duty, is nothing like handling a hunting rifle. But, a study has recently shown that playing air guitar actually makes you better at playing guitar.

According to the Daily Star

Mirjam James, a research fellow for creative learning and original performance at Cambridge, said activities like air guitar can help aspiring musicians to have moments of inspiration they would not have otherwise. James said "I would say, if you do air guitar or sing in the shower and take the ideas you have to the practice room, then these things become practice as well."
