Primus and Puscifer drummer Tim ‘Herb’ Alexander recently had a major health scare when he suffered a heart attack and underwent triple bypass surgery to correct the issue. But Alexander is a trooper and is planning to step behind the kit with Primus again this fall.

Primus posted a statement on Alexander’s health and how it will affect their plans to promote the band’s upcoming eighth studio album, ‘Primus and the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble.’ The disc is due Oct. 21 and the band has plans to do a special tour in support of the ‘Willy Wonka’ chocolate-themed album.

Their message on the matter reads as follow.

On July 15th, Tim suffered a heart attack. It was discovered that there were three blockages near his heart. On July 21, triple bypass surgery was performed to remove the blockages. The Mighty “Herb” has pulled through surgery, the blockage from his heart has been removed with no complications. He is now home resting and beginning his recovery process. Tim will be back in good health and ready to go in October.

Due to Tim’s health we have decided to cancel the shows in Maplewood, Fargo and Clive. Tim is recuperating fast and furious and making progress every day, but its not realistic to think he can be ready to play 2 sets in September. We’ll have a special announcement about Riot Fest in Chicago and Denver in the next few weeks. Refunds will be available for the three shows at point of purchase.

The upcoming album will be the first to feature the classic Primus lineup of Les Claypool, Alexander and guitarist Larry LaLonde since 1995′s ‘Tales From the Punchbowl.’ Alexander has played with Primus during multiple stints, most recently rejoining the band in 2013.
