A public information meeting on the Roaring Lion forest fire will be at 7 p.m. Monday night, August 1, at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds.

Tod McKay of the Bitterroot National Forest said that forest officials, volunteer fire departments and Ravalli County Sheriff's Office will be represented at the meeting in the First Interstate Center at the fairgrounds.

The meeting is also near the time the Forest Service Regional Type 1 Incident Management team takes over the battle at the Roaring Lion Fire 5 miles southwest of Hamilton. The Incident Command Center will be at Hamilton High School.

The Roaring Lion fire was mapped at about 3,500 acres before Monday's afternoon burning.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs of the Roaring Lion Fire.

The authorization makes FEMA funding available for about 75 percent of the eligible state and local firefighting costs. These grants are not for assitance to individual homes or businesses.
