Update - The 1,000 acres Reynolds Lake Fire at the south end of the Bitterroot Valley is 25 percent contained, according to Tod McKay of the Bitterroot National Forest. Sunday's update put the fire at 1,068 acres, with no appreciable growth over the weekend. The fire is 35 miles southwest of Darby, south of Painted Rocks Reservoir, on the Montana-Idaho border. McKay said crews have dug hand line around 90 percent of the fire and 240 people are working at the blaze, including aircraft. Three helicopters have dumped almost 500,000 gallons of water on the fire and air tankers have slowed the fire's growth with 81,000 gallons of fire retardant.

The goal is to put out the lightning-caused fire, McKay said. Crews are working to keep it out of the head of Blue Joint and Deer Creek as they continue to work on the northeast side of the forest fire, with pumps and hose being set up on the north edge of the blaze. No structures are threatened, and forest road #44 to Reynolds Lake Trailhead is closed. Fire danger on the Bitterroot National Forest is "High."
