The weather conditions allowed greater use of helicopters to help ground crews fight the 7,000-acre Roaring Lion forest fire south of Hamilton. It is now 7 percent contained, with dozer lines connecting to previous fire areas in the Sawtooth and Lost Horse canyons.

Crews are building fire lines in the Camas Creek, Hayes Creek and Gold Creek areas and on Ward Mountain. There are now over 650 people on the fire, according to Incident commander Greg Poncin. Total acreage is 7, 129 acres.

Stage 1 and Stage 2 evacuations remain in place August 4, with no additional areas involved. Lost Horse Road from its intersection with Lick Creek Road is closed, including Twin Lakes, Bear Creek Pass Trailhead and Schumaker Campground. Other areas closed are Camas Creek, Sawtooth Creek, Canyon Creek, Lost Horse Creek and Blodgett Creek.

However, Lake Como is open to the public.

A public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4, at the Assembly of God Church, 601 West Main in Hamilton.

The Firewise trailer is now located at the Rocky Mountain Grange parking lot, south of Hamilton along US 93 and is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. US 93 is open near the fire, but there is a speed limit of 45 miles per hour and motorists are advised to not stop alongside the roadway.
