Roaring Lion Fire Salvage Proposed in Bitterroot

The Bitterroot National Forest is proposing cutting snag tree hazards near the Roaring Lion, Sawtooth and Ward Mountain Trailheads as a Roaring Lion Fire salvage project.

Tod McKay of the Bitterroot National Forest said the area involved would be about 45 acres of the 8,700 acres burned. The harvest would remove trees with tractor and skidders during the winter months when the ground would be frozen. No roads would be built.

About 12 acres are within the Selway-Bitterroot inventoried Roadless Area and were originally part of the Westside Management Project. Portions of the project border private land.
