On Tuesday, August 15, the 'Back-To-School Bash hosted by the Missoula Salvation Army and the United Way will help more than 1,000 kids start the school year ready to learn from the very first day.

Captain Josh Boyd with the Salvation Army of Missoula said the event is not open to the public, but by invitation only.

"The Back-to-School Bash will be held here at the Salvation Army from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday," Boyd said. "We're looking to serve as many children as we can with school supplies and backpacks. We're trying to make sure that kids who are the most needy have all the things they need to be successful students."

Boyd said there will be other services provided at the event.

"Haircuts will be provided here on-site," he said. "Dental hygiene service will be provided, we have books being given away, and there are several agencies on-site who will talk with families to give them the help they need."

Boyd explained the 'by invitation only' event.

"We can't open it to the whole city because we would run out of backpacks for all those people, but we want to make sure that the families in the most need will be here to get what they need. Different agencies in town who have served those families have invited them, and given them invitations to be here and be a part of this event."

Some of the agencies who have invited children and their families to the event include The Salvation Army, United Way of Missoula County, Missoula Food Bank, and Missoula County Public Schools. There will also be representatives on hand from 20-plus nonprofits and community organizations.
