Missoula County Sheriff's Captain Mike Dominick will file a discrimination complaint with the Montana Human Rights Bureau against Missoula County and the sheriff's office over his recent demotion following the election of Sheriff T.J. McDermott.

Dominick has been with the sheriff's department for nearly 20 years, and was, until January 1, 2015, the Captain of Detectives. Now, he oversees the department's evidence warehouse.

"I'm filing a complaint with the Montana Human Rights Bureau," Dominick said on Monday morning. "The cause, basically, is my demotion after the first of the year, and being sent out here to a warehouse with very limited duties.I have tried to work with the sheriff and his staff for at least the last four months to find an amicable solution, and I just haven't been able to do that, so I've taken this next step."

The coming complaint, according to Dominick's attorney Nicole Seifert, is on its way to Helena to be filed today, and KGVO News will publish a copy as soon as it is available.

Recently, former deputy and Public Information Officer Paige Pavalone filed suit in Lewis and Clark District Court over her dismissal from the department. In her complaint, she specifically mentioned Captain Dominick's demotion, even though the complaint states Dominick retained his rank and salary.

KGVO News has reached out to the sheriff's office for a comment.
