Reverend Brian
Greetings Blaze faithful. As Aaron Lewis is fond of saying (whining?), “It’s Been a While.” Now that song is stuck in your head. You’re welcome. According to my Facebook timeline (that’s how we judge the reality of things these days, right?) I’ve been away since July 2007. It’s all a bit hazy, really…mostly because I drove through some nasty forest fires when I moved away…and I’m pretty sure some of that Montana smoke still resides betwixt my ears. But here I am again, keeping JC’s chair warm while she does a job few of us have the brass tacks to do—namely making the world safe for democracy, apple pie, and, to paraphrase Lewis Black, a Starbucks across from a Starbucks J.
So what’s my life been like since ’07? I’ve seen lots of interstate. I went back to school in Fargo (950 miles…) for a couple years (funny story—not long after moving into my apartment, a road crew used a giant wood chipper to pulverize downed trees—oh ya? Ya!). While in Fargo I got me a master’s degree, a step-cat, and a hot wife (turns out girls like a guy with a big diploma). I always thought karma owed me a big-ass check…turns out Fargo is the town where karma and I squared our account.
After Fargo the misses and I, following up on an opportunity to make my diploma even bigger, ventured further east to Athens, Ohio. It’s about 1975 miles worth of interstate away from Missoula—and dangerously close to Deliverance country. But, on the bright side, I got to live in another movie stereotype while working on my PhD in media studies AND acquiring another cat. Turns out Droz (from PCU) was right: “You can major in Gameboy if you know how to bulls**t…”
So, now that I am done with my PhD classes I just have to write my final paper…and I can do that from anywhere…and we didn’t want to stay in Ohio a minute longer than we had to…so here I be…
