Epic concept albums are nothing new for metal and rock bands, but not necessarily what'd you'd expect from a band like Slipknot. In a new interview with BBC Radio at the recent Download Festival that you can check out above, the band's percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan thinks it's something they should tackle.

Crahan says, "I've been on Jim [Root], and I'm just, like, 'Man, we've gotta write an art record. We've gotta write our Wall, our Kid A, our Sgt. Pepper's, whatever you wanna say. And that's where I'm at. We've got so many records on our record deal. We've done five. I'd love it if we could do a double album, and just… interludes, have a concept, maybe make a movie."

"I mean, things that have all been done, things that have all been done before," Crahan continues, "but our way, our interpretation. That would be a grand slam for the Clowner. Don't get me wrong: we'd still do our thing. We're still gonna be Slipknot."

As far as a timeline for when the next Slipknot record might happen, Crahan says, "I'll be honest man… We're talking, but no one's throwing out any time[lines]. because we've got quite a bunch left, on the table, playing [live shows]."

"And other things can really mess with the head," states Crahan. "You've gotta stay in touch with the body, 'cause there's a lot of this left. But it's gonna happen sooner than later. It's just very exciting to see everybody excited."

Slipknot will embark on the “Summer’s Last Stand” North American tour with Lamb of GodBullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White beginning July 24 in West Palm Beach, Fla. They'll also be hosting Knotfest Oct. 24 and 25 in San Bernardino, Calif.
