A fire was reported in a Lolo apartment early Saturday morning, located on the street just above the new Lolo Peak Brewery.

Acting Battalion Chief for Missoula Rural Fire, Damon Almond, said the call came in at about 4:20 a.m. at 10990 Hannah Court.

"When our first unit arrived, they observed a fire on the deck of a second story apartment, and they were able to knock that down quickly," Almond said. "The fire made minimal extension into the residence, so there was really no damage to the interior furnishings. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire."

Almond said no firefighters were injured in the incident, but one first responder was slightly injured.

"There was a sheriff's deputy there, and he went in and opened the door and tried to make sure everybody was out of the building, and it sounds like he took a puff of smoke there," he said.

The deputy was treated for smoke inhalation, but was not seriously injured.

One fire investigator said there was no barbecue grill on the second floor deck where the fire occurred, but there was a lawn mower stored on the deck.

Officials are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.
