A mid-April snowstorm has brought snow to Western Montana, with up to nine inches reported in the Condon area.

National Weather Service forecaster Trent Smith said Sunday at 7 p.m. that the storm is the result of two fronts colliding over the area.

]”First, we had a pretty good cold system coming out of Canada, giving us strong northerly winds across much of the area. With that cold air in the valleys, all of a sudden we had nice jet stream with  good moisture streaming in from the west colliding right on top of us, causing significant snowfall,” Smith said

“We are seeing some pretty decent accumulations, especially above 4500 feet, with nine inches reported in Condon,” Smith added.

Smith cautions travelers for Sunday night and Monday morning to be aware of snow and slick roads.

“With all this snow now sticking to the roads, the morning commute could be a little dicey on Monday morning,” Smith warned.
