Stages and other structures collapsed Thursday night (Aug. 18) at the Pukkelpop music festival in Belgium, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and injuries to at least 70 others. Bands such as Rise Against, Foo Fighters, As I Lay Dying and 30 Seconds to Mars were set to play the event.

The incident occurred right as Chicago indie band the Smith Westerns were getting ready to perform their set. A heavy storm rolled in and destroyed separate stages at the festival.

This news follows the recent tragic stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair the killed five people and another one in Ottawa that occurred right before classic rockers Cheap Trick were set to take the stage.

Rise Against issued a message on Twitter saying, “Rise Against band and crew are all ok. Thanks for your thoughts.” 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto also tweeted, saying, “Crazy storm at Pukkelpop in Belgium – not sure we will be able to go on stage – stay tuned. Safety first.”

The Pukkelpop music festival was set to take place over three nights, with Deftones scheduled to be among the top acts on Friday and the Offspring headlining on Saturday. Thursday’s event was canceled after the storm, while there’s no word yet on the status of the other two days.
