Just like any other holiday, I enjoy making time to watch some of my favorite movies that fit the holiday. Veterans Day is one of my favorites, because I get to watch some of my all time favorite movies. Check out my top 5 favorite movies to watch on Veterans Day.

  • Saving Private Ryan

I have always been fascinated with World War 2, and can never get tired of watching WW2 movies. One of my favorites is Saving Private Ryan. The story line is great, the actors are fantastic and the gore is tastefully done. Not to mention it is a Spielberg movie. Tom Hanks and Matt Damon with Spielberg? How can you go wrong?

  • Sands of Iwo Jima

I got 2 words to describe why this one made my top 5....John Wayne! YEAH! Sometimes to truly appreciate movies, you have to look back on the classics. Sands of Iwo Jima has always been one of my favorites and I encourage you to watch. I mean, C'mon, it stars "The DUKE" himself

  • Full Metal Jacket

As a child of a Vietnam Veteran,  It was taboo to ask about what my father experienced during his time in the jungle. The only way I could truly witness what he went through was to watch Vietnam era movies. One movie that will go down as one of the greats is Full Metal Jacket. This movie gives an honest look at the hell on earth that was the fight against communism.

  • Stripes

Not all war movies have to be dark and violent. One of my all time favorite comedies is the Bill Murray classic "Stripes." This movie is hilarious from start to finish, showing everything from boot camp shenanigans to cold war era gun fights. Featuring 2 of my favorite Ghostbuster, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. As well as the funny man, John Candy.

  • In The Army Now

In the mid to late 90's, I loved everything that Pauly Shore did. As someone who has memorized every line of Bio-Dome, it was only natural for me to enjoy In The Army Now. Set as a tounge in cheek jab at the Gulf War, Pauly Shore and Andy Dick are two long haired losers that lose their jobs and resort to joining the Army Reserves. Their goal was to do the one job that would not put them on any frontlines, only to find themselves in the middle of a war in the desert.

Thanks to all the men and women that have served in our armed forces on this Veterans Day, and I hope you can find the time to watch one of these classic military movies during the holiday.
