April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and one campus is making sure that point is not forgotten. The Student Advocacy Resource Center (SARC) among other advocates for non-violence at the University of Montana will hold several events throughout the month to raise awareness of sexual assault. UM Vice President for Integrated Communications Peggy Kuhr said these events will also offer support for survivors:

"Activities range from what's called an interactive theater presentation which is later this week and that is called 'Make Your Move! Intervention to ACTion,'" Kuhr said. "But really what that is about is learning how to help out a friend, if you will, bystander intervention. It's going to be interactive theater where the audience will be asked to participate."

Intervention to ACTion is "theater for social change" and is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Gallagher Business Building. This interactive theater performance will help participants hone their skills to prevent sexual violence.

Kuhr said other events such as a Native American dance that supports Native American women in particular who are victims of domestic violence.

"There will be a hope quilt, which is really a quilt just to support survivors of sexual assault, where people are making panels and they'll put it all together. It will be on the Oval, weather permitting, and in the UC later this month," Kuhr said. "Those are intended really to show messages of support, hope, and unity which is the message students felt was most important to get across campus."
