Missoula County Public Schools will be hosting their annual speech and debate tournament and volunteer judges are needed.

Communication Director Hatton Littman said the tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, January 12 and 13 at Sentinel High School.

“This as a great time for folks who want to volunteer as a judge for that event,” said Littman. “There will be training available on Wednesday, January the 10th from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sentinel High School. Some of the different types of competitions will be Lincoln-Douglass style debate, extemporaneous speaking where competitors don’t know their topic until shortly before the event, so it’s really exciting to watch these students. Judges are always amazed at the level of talent shown by these high school students,” she said.

Missoula has built a reputation throughout the state for support of Speech and Debate, and officials hope that this tournament provides yet another opportunity to demonstrate the city’s commitment to this worthwhile activity.
