UPDATE 2:30 p.m.

Montana Department of Transportation officials have opened Interstate 90 to two-way traffic in the eastbound lane, with flaggers and pilot cars. No oversize loads allowed, and vehicles maximum 10 feet wide through the area

UPDATE 12:00 noon Monday, March 31

Montana Department of Transportation crews have been working all morning with heavy equipment attempting to clear a large volume of rocks and debris that has blocked the westbound lanes of I-90 approximately 6.5 miles from the top of Lookout Pass.

Public Information Officer Laurie Ryan said on Monday morning that detours remain in place from Montana 135 and also Montana 200 to Sandpoint, Idaho. Eastbound lanes do remain open with single-lane traffic, reduced speed and minimal delays.

A landslide on Sunday afternoon has closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 from mile marker 6.5 to the top of Lookout Pass at the Idaho border.

Montana Highway Patrol trooper Richard Hader said the westbound lanes remained closed as of 4 a.m.

“We have the westbound lanes closed down again because of a landslide,” Hader said. “They’re going to re-evaluate the situation this morning and start moving rocks and debris out of the way, so as far as I know, it’ll remain shut down at least till the early afternoon.”

Hader said westbound traffic is being rerouted.

“Traffic is being redirected up over the crossroad up to Highway 200 and into Idaho that way, just like we did for the snowslides.”

Hader said no injuries have been reported due to the landslide.
