A question that never comes with a short answer. I'm often surprised at how many people have never been to a concert, attended their first show as an adult or can't remember. Rare is the person who can't remember though, how can you forget the very first time you saw a famous rock star in real life?  Especially before MTV. Back then the only way you could know what your favorite bands looked like was by looking at the liner notes in the album.

My love affair with attending concerts began with Quiet Riot and Loverboy in the summer of 1983. My mom took me to the show at the Harry Adams Field House, now known as the Adams Center. I had just turned 8 and was wearing a white Duran Duran t-shirt that I had cut the sleeves off of, parachute pants, red leather jacket and my signature spike mullet. Even then I knew the importance of not only wearing a band t-shirt to the concert, but also the importance of not wearing the t-shirt of the band you're going to see. (There are a few exceptions to this rule by the way, but that's a whole different conversation.)

At the time, I wasn't at all familiar with Quiet Riot, but instantly fell in love as Kevin DuBrow shouted the F-word time and time again. And I was thrilled later that year when their video for 'Cum On Feel The Noize' came out on MTV and everybody had the 'Metal Health' album.

And then came Loverboy, and Mike Reno in all his headbanded, red leather pantsed glory. I remember enjoying the fact that they didn't sound exactly like the album that I had heard over and over and over. It was a bit off, and different, and I loved it.
