Zakk Wylde has shown his ability to adapt to a variety of styles, but on a new track the guitar great lends his skills to the new country song “Turn You Down.” The song is on Michael Hardy’s new country mixtape, humorously titled Hixtape Vol. 1, which features collaborations with some of the biggest names in country music.

“Turn You Down” is an upbeat knee slapping country song with a heavy groove thanks to Wylde, who does not hold back laying down his signature guitar work on the track creating a face-melting country speed metal collaboration. The tune also features country vocalist Morgan Wallen, who got his start on Season 6 of The Voice in 2014.

The catchy sing-a-long chorus features a shout out to Guns 'N Roses: “Like a tall sip of Jack and Coke / ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine on the radio / Colorado left hand cigarette smoke / You turn me on you just can’t turn me down.” Listen to the song below.

Anyone familiar with Zakk Wylde’s solo material will not be surprised by his country collaboration. The guitarist has some southern and soulful roots he tapped into for his 2018 effort Book of Shadows, with songs like “Lost Prayer” and “Sleeping Dogs,” featuring Corey Taylor.

Michael Hardy is one of country’s hottest singer/songwriters. He co-wrote a slew of chart-topping hits including Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country,” Florida Georgia Line’s “Simple” and Morgan Wallen’s “Up Down.” He told NashCountryDaily, “The more we kept asking people and taking chances… people kept saying ‘yes’ and it just became this really cool thing.” Hardy added, “Eighty percent of them are my friends. The spectrum is really broad... I think there’s something for every type of country fan on the record.”

Hixtape Vol. 1 features 17 guests including Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Dustin Lynch, Lauren Alaina, Tracy Lawrence, Trace Adkins and more. It is available now.
