79 Year-old Roderick Pahl appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday charged with his second count of felony stalking.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Caitlin Williams described the charges to Justice of the Peace Alex Beal.

“The State is requesting bail in the amount of $50,000,” said Williams. “This defendant has been harassing Jane Doe and there is a temporary order of protection against him dated on December 17th. Jane Doe is fearful that the defendant could her bodily harm as he owns firearms, and that he has threatened to kidnap her and stick needles into her in the past.”

Williams related more illegal contact from the defendant who resides in Lolo.

“On December 23, Doe received a note from the defendant in her mailbox in which he compared himself to two serial killers and stated ‘you will never be safe anywhere’,” she said. “On December 25, the defendant called Jane Doe multiple times and referred to her as a sexually explicit name and he furthermore admitted that he called Jane Doe. On January 7, the defendant admitted that he had threatened to kidnap Jane Doe and stick her with needles when talking to an employee of the Missoula Police Department.”

Appearing via video from the Missoula County Jail, Pahl kept up a rambling conversation with Judge Beal, leading the judge to request a mental evaluation of the defendant.

Judge Beal set bail at $10,000 and ordered Pahl to be released only into pretrial supervision.
