International Women's Day was Monday, and we're also celebrating Women's History Month on my morning feature "Under The Covers." You know we love cover songs here at Alt 101.5, so here are just 12 of many excellent covers from some of our favorite female artists. If you were listening Monday morning, you probably heard me talking about how much I wanted to play K. Flay's cover of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," but it was agreed that that many "shits" at 8:40 in the morning would be b-a-n-a-n-a-s . So here it is, and it's so flippin' good.

And here's the song I actually played for Under The Covers Monday morning, also by K. Flay.

Here's one that no one has ever been able to obtain clear audio of, but is an incredible collaboration. Imagine seeing this live! It's No Doubt on their Rock Steady Live tour, with Garbage and Brody Dalle of The Distillers covering Blondie's "Call Me."

Badass Lydia Night and her band The Regrettes covering Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now."

The Interrupters are the opening band for the Green Day/Weezer/Fall Out Boy Hella Mega Tour, if it ever happens, and ass kicking frontwoman Aimee Allen is from Missoula. Here they are taking on Green Day's "American Idiot."

The lovely Alanis Morissette covering the classic "King Of Pain" by the Police.

Nearly every band and artist in existence has covered the Led Zep staple "Immigrant Song" at one point or another, but nobody, and I mean NOBODY does it like Karen O of the YeahYeahYeahs.

Here's a fun surprise, rock band Halestorm kicking the crap out of "Heathens" by Twenty One Pilots.

I know just one person on this earth who doesn't love the voice of Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, the rest of us are blown away by her vocals. Here she is covering the Foo Fighters' pandemic times fave, "Times Like These."

If you haven't had the chance to dig into the catalog of Wolf Alice, throw them on shuffle some weekend, they do not disappoint. Ellie Rowsell makes Green Day's "Good Riddance" her own in this live cover.

Love her or hate her, Courtney Love is undeniably a strong female with loads of sass and attitude. This cover kicks ass on the original though, here's Phantogram's take on the Hole song "Violet." Sarah Barthel is an absolute goddess.

And to round it out, the version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that helped Nirvana fans of all ages understand the lyrics, the cover by Tori Amos.
