"Activate Missoula" is a new, long range transportation plan that looks at setting strategies to help shape the city’s transportation network 30 years down the line. Missoula Transportation Planning Manager Jessica Morriss said the update considers all mode of transportation.

"Whether you're walking, biking, driving, using transit, all of those things are covered," Morriss said. "We talk to the community about priorities and needs. Then we try to match those with the available funding that we have over a 30-year period. 2045 is kind of the horizon year that we're looking at."

Morriss said one of the things the plan elaborates on is Missoula’s growth policy.

"Both the city and the county are just kind of in the final stages of updating their growth policies right now. The LRTP is intended to take those growth policies and support them," Morriss said. "In essence, we are trying to take that information and then use the transportation system to help implement those overall growth policies for both the city and the county."

For more information, Morriss said two public meetings will be held in Missoula beginning Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Missoula Public Library. The second meeting is Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Holiday Inn Downtown from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Morriss also encourages the public to visit the "Activate Missoula" website and take a virtual open house tour and submit any comments or suggestions about the updated transportation plan.
