Award Winning Missoula News Journalist Announces Departure
We are very bummed to hear that one of our favorite local news anchors, and one of our very favorite listeners, has announced that today is her last day. Award winning journalist Maritsa Georgiou has shared in a Facebook post that today will be her final day with NBC Montana. You can enjoy her newscast one last evening, tonight, at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. However, she says, she can't guarantee she'll make it through the broadcasts without shedding a few tears. Us too, Maritsa, us too.
Ms. Georgiou joined the NBC Montana team at KECI in 2006, and because of her accurate reporting, natural delivery, and trustworthy nature, quickly became a local favorite. She has won many journalist and broadcast awards over the years, including the coveted Walter Cronkite Award, which recognizes "award recognizes television journalism that helps viewers understand the issues and candidates, and how voters' electoral choices will affect their lives." Maritsa is a pretty big deal.
On a personal note, I appreciate the way she runs her social media. She's always the professional and a class act, even when commenters are lacking in the grace department. Maritsa is just an all around wonderful human and we will miss her on Missoula TV and online. She has yet to announce what her next adventure will be, but we're certain she'll keep winning awards and embracing success. See her announcement below.
