Black Label Society Get ‘Trampled Down Below’ on Crushing New Song
Black Label Society's Grimmest Hits marks their first new studio album since 2014 and it promises to be a fully-fledged riff monster. The band has already offered a glimpse at the record with "Room of Nightmares" and "All That Once Shined" and have now dropped another album track, "Trampled Down Below," which can be heard... down below.
If there's a bigger Black Sabbath fan than Zakk Wylde alive on this Earth good luck proving it. The axeman's musical DNA is encoded with the riffing might of Tony Iommi and there's plenty of nods to metal's godfathers on "Trampled Down Below," but Wylde, tasteful as always, maintains his own style throughout the song.
There's an ominous feel to the song, which opens with some buzzing distortion and eerie violins. Clanking bass gradually enters the song, setting up a six-string explosion and Wylde's thunder-forged tone. It's a perfect album opener, establishing a dreary atmosphere that subsides in energy after the mid-section with another spotlight bass section, built back up with a fleet-fingered solo.
Grimmest Hits will be out Jan. 19 through eOne and pre-orders for the physical album can be placed at the label's webstore with digital reservations available here. Black Label Society are already out on the road supporting the record, so head to this location to see if they're stopping at a city near you.
