Breaking Benjamin’s ‘Blood’ Is a Storm of Heaviness and Atmospheric Beauty
We're just a couple weeks out from the release of Ember, the sixth album from Breaking Benjamin. So far, the band has released "Red Cold River" and "Feed the Wolf," both of which represent some of the heaviest moments in the band's discography and the bludgeoning heaviness collides with ethereal emptiness once again on "Blood."
It's a punchy cut where lunging, nervous moments build tension underneath the more atmospheric elements, intensifying throughout the track to give it an amorphous push and pull. The chorus is explosive, but still manages to retain the crawling vocal delivery Ben Burnley utilizes throughout the verse to give it a sense of drawing out that tension, finally letting it go over the final moments.
Breaking Benjamin's new album also features a surprising guest — Derek Hough from Dancing With the Stars. Burnley told Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez how it all happened, explaining, "He covered 'Ashes of Eden,' and that's how I found him because he tagged us in it. He just did it as a passion project. It wasn't for money. It wasn't for exposure. It was just because he loved the band and he'd loved the band ever since our first album, so he just did it because he loved the song and it resonated with him. So I found that on Instagram and was like, 'Holy crap! This is awesome.' He did such a great job, so I reached out to him and said, 'Hey man, we're doing a new album and I have this track that I think you'd sound amazing on with me, and I want to know if you want to do it.' And he said, 'Absolutely.' So he came to my house and we just recorded it right there in my living room."
Ember comes out on April 13 and can be pre-ordered here.
