Costco's Kirkland Signature Beers Are Being Discontinued

The New York Post claims that Costco will stop selling all of its two Kirkland Signature beers indefinitely. Those are the Helles-style lager and vintage ale. The Deschutes brewery stopped producing them months ago. There isn’t much left.

Costco Is Saying Goodbye to Its Kirkland Beer

It wasn’t until late in 2024 when I saw my first beer from Deschutes Brewing Co. (the Helles Lager). I've since developed an appreciation for this particular style of lager; however, I'm still unable to say the same about having tasted it personally.

It's been at hunting camp. At Griz football tailgating parties. In coolers. For less than $2 per can, I believe there are a lot of folks out there buying it because they perceive that it lacks both added flavors and chemicals similar to those found in cleaning products.

I’m now sorry that I never cracked open a can.

This Wasn't Just Cheap Costco Beer

That is perhaps the biggest shocker in relation to this news story. The Kirkland Helles was really good beer.

The Kirkland Helles was created by Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. It is described by Costco as a 4.5% ABV Munich-Style helles made from domestic and international hops and speciality German malts. Although the beer did win awards (it earned a silver medal at the 2025 World Beer Cup and a bronze medal at the 2026 World Beer Cup), that’s not why many enjoyed the beer. They also liked it because it cost about $14 for a twelve-pack. That is a very affordable price for a good-tasting beer.

One Less Beer for Montana Hunting Camp

According to The New York Post, Deschutes simply completed its contracted volume requirement, so all remaining inventory is being sold off individually through Costco warehouse store locations.

So, if you happen upon a case while shopping at Costco, you might consider picking it up. Especially if you’re like me and have said “next time” about trying it over the past couple of years. Apparently, “next time” has an expiration date.
