New Orleans sludge lords Crowbar are poised to release their 11th studio record, The Serpent Only Lies on Oct. 28. With the album freshly announced, the quartet are keeping the buzz going with a taste of new music by way of "Falling While Rising" as heard in the video above.

Starting off with just a touch of feedback, Crowbar turn up massive chunks of Earth, digging deep with morose riffing. After a minute of drowning listeners in mud, the group quickly changes pace, tearing into a swinging, uptempo rhythm as Kirk Windstein's signature rasp heaps the dirt on "Falling While Rising." Returning to the sloth pace during the chorus, chords are picked, invoking a feeling of inalienable sorrow.

"The song is heavy, powerful, emotional and full of massive riffs! Hope everyone enjoys it and is ready for the full record," exclaimed Windstein when succinctly describing the new tune. Speaking about the rest of The Serpent Only Lies, the band leader said, “I intentionally went back and listened to a lot of old Crowbar stuff, like the self-titled and Broken Glass albums, to get a feel for what my mindset was 20-plus years ago. I also went back and listened to the bands that influenced Crowbar in the beginning, like Trouble, Saint Vitus, Melvins and the first Type O Negative record. So it was kinda me doing my homework.”

This album also features the return of co-founding bassist Todd "Sexy T" Strange, who last appeared on Crowbar's 2000 album, Equilibrium. Pre-orders for The Serpent Only Lies (out on eOne in North America and SPV overseas) can be placed through Amazon or digitally through iTunes. Fans who pre-order through iTunes will receive an instant gratification download of the "Falling While Rising" single.

Crowbar will serve as support for GWAR on a small run of dates starting Sept. 14 that can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours. They'll remain on the road through Oct. 22 and the rest of the tour dates can be viewed here.
