Dave Grohl Covered Peaches (NSFW!) and My Holidays are Complete
If you're not following Dave Grohl's 'Hanukkah Sessions', you're missing out on the best covers of the year, and this year has seen a LOT of great cover songs. Dave has teamed up with Greg Kurstin of The Bird And The Bee, who also produced the Foos latest album 'Concrete and Gold.' Together, they are celebrating the 8 nights of Hanukkah by covering some of their, and our, favorite Jewish artists from Dave's living room. Here's what they had to say before they kicked off the greatest gift of the holidays.
With all the mishegas of 2020, Greg and I were kibbitzing about how we could make Hannukah extra-special this year. Festival of Lights?!? How about a festival of tasty LICKS!!! So hold on to your tuchuses because we’ve got something special coming for your shayna punims. L’chaim!!!! #HanukkahSessions
Night one was Beastie Boys 'Sabotage,' that even part time Foo fans appreciated, it's sooooo good. Night two got a TON of views as it was their take on Drake's 'Hotline Bling,' complete with Dave's take on Drake's dance moves. Third came 'Mississippi Queen' by classic rock band Mountain, where Dave beats the crap out of a tin cup. And then there was night 4. Night 4 takes the cake. I don't even know how they can top it for night 5. They can't.
On Sunday night, my phone alerted me that the latest installment of the Hanukkah Sessions was released so I paused the TV and told the fam to gather 'round. The video starts with the word PEACHES, leading viewers to believe we were about to get a hard hitting cover of the Presidents of the United States of America song. Nope. Much to my great, great delight, it was Peaches, the artist, and the classic dirty song 'F*** The Pain Away.' There was the family gathered 'round as Dave Grohl gleefully sang "suckin' on my...." and we all died laughing. It's so much fun, it's everything I could ask for in a cover.
See all of the covers so far below. You can also catch the Foos in concert tomorrow night (12/15) as part of Amazon's 'Holiday Plays,' it begins at 5:55 p.m. Missoula time here. The new Foo Fighters album 'Medicine At Midnight' is out on February 5th.
