Update: The Recording Academy issued an apology this evening (Feb. 2), stating that the announcement earlier this week that Dave Grohl would be performing at the 59th Grammys with hip-hop acts A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson .Paak was premature, and that Grohl will NOT be part of the performance. See the full statement below:

Earlier this week, we announced that Dave Grohl would be performing with Anderson .Paak and A Tribe Called Quest prior to confirming all participants. Dave Grohl will not be part of this performance. Unfortunately, our announcement was made prematurely. On behalf of The Recording Academy and AEG Ehrlich Productions, we sincerely apologize to all parties involved for our error.

The Grammy have become known for their once-in-a-lifetime collaborations, and while some pairings seem obvious to be a perfect match, others have that "what are they thinking" curiosity factor when you see them on paper. For this year's Grammys, there's a newly announced collaboration that certainly has that curiosity factor built in as Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will take the stage with iconic hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest and up-and-coming singer/songwriter/rapper Anderson Paak.

Grohl is a Grammy vet, with Foo Fighters receiving 27 nominations and 11 wins in their 20-plus years as a band. A Tribe Called Quest also have a solid history with past Grammy nominations, while Paak is just getting started in his career, earning a Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album nomination at this year's ceremony.

So how does the rocker Grohl fit in with A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson Paak? That remains to be seen, but let us not forget that Foo Fighters have shown the ability to be up for anything, performing with electronic artist Deadmau5 in a not-so-obvious pairing back in 2012. So you'll need to tune in on Feb. 12 to CBS to see it all go down at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. And with Metallica on Grammy performance bill as well, there will be some interest for rock and metal fans.

In related news, as we previous stated, it's been 20-plus years since Foo Fighters first started, but in a new video that surfaced as an outtake from 2014's Sonic Highways series, Grohl gets a chance to reflect, listening back to a demo of "Gods Look Down," reportedly the first song that Grohl ever wrote and recorded.

In the clip (watch below), we hear an alternate version of the song from 1990, but the track eventually surfaced in a different form on Fumble, the fifth and final album from Grohl's pre-Nirvana band Scream. Grohl and producer Barrett Jones listen back to the original 8-track tapes of the song, with Grohl joking, "I sound like a girl. I don't think my balls dropped yet."

Grohl told Rolling Stone in a past interview, “It’s funny because I hadn’t heard some of these songs since I’d recorded them. When we went to shoot Barrett for the Sonic Highways Seattle episode, he was putting on songs that I’d recorded, f--k, I don’t know, 25, 26 years ago? I had, songs I had no recollection of, which is weird. It’s almost like seeing a snapshot of yourself, passed-out drunk at a party. You’re listening to a song like, ‘Oh, my God, what was I thinking?'”
