Deontay Wilder’s Pulverizing KO of Bermane Stiverne Will Leave You Concussed
Deontay Wilder didn't just knock out Bermane Stiverne on Saturday night. He knocked him out into oblivion.
Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title when he demolished Stiverne in Brooklyn, N.Y. Wilder improved his record to 39-0 with 38 knockouts. The only man who's ever gone the distance with him? Why, that'd be Stiverne, back in 2015 when Wilder beat him in a 12-round decision to take the belt from him.
Stiverne, who hadn't fought in two years, didn't have a chance in this one, with Wilder pummeling in the opening round for an easy victory.
Wilder embraced his total dismantling of his opponent. “You have to give Stiverne props for getting in the ring,” he said. “It takes a lot of courage. It takes a lot of pride to step in the ring with someone like me."
Wilder now has his eyes on Anthony Joseph. “I’ve been waiting on that fight for a long time,” Wilder said. “Now I declare war on you. Do you accept my challenge?"
Them's fightin' words. Literally.
