Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford Joins Experience Hendrix Tour
Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford will join the Experience Hendrix Tour for some select tour stops in March. Los Lobos members David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas will also join the tour for some shows.
Whitford, Hidalgo and Rosas will join a wide array of musicians already scheduled to perform this year, including Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox. Other musicians scheduled to appear include blues legend Buddy Guy, Black Label Society and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dweezil Zappa and Keb’ Mo’, among others.
The Experience Hendrix Tour first emerged in 1995 as a one-off show originally known as the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Festival, a celebration of Jimi Hendrix’s short but immeasurably influential career.
This isn't Whitford’s first time playing the Experience Hendrix Tour. “He had a really deep understanding and knowledge of the blues,” Whitford noted in a press released. “I don’t know where it came from. We all try and cop that feel. We can’t quite nail it, but it sure is fun to try and emulate some of what he did. There are a lot of good lessons in that.”
The touring tribute has gone through many incarnations before its first tour of the West Coast in 2004. Organizers consider this year’s outing the most ambitious to date, with 29 performances slated in February and March. Whitford will be performing with the Experience Hendrix Tour March 10-12; Rosas and Hidalgo will join March 9-11.
Among this year’s noteworthy tour stops is a special engagement Feb. 19 in Seattle, Hendrix’s hometown, at the city’s historic Paramount Theatre.
