Just before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Missoula police were called to the report of a disturbance in the 100 Block of Stephens Avenue. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“When they arrived, they encountered an adult male and female,: said Welsh. "The male was arrested for partner or family member assault due to a report by the female half that she had been strangled. The arrested male, identified as 23-year-old Nickolas Povsha, informed the officers that he did have a handgun on his person.”

Welsh says Povsha cooperated with officers as they disarmed him, but officers learned that he did not have a concealed weapons permit. Welsh went on to explain how the incident started.

“Apparently the argument began when Povsha indicated to the female that he wanted to speak to some friends before they left the residence,” Welsh said. “Apparently, it took long enough that it upset the female half and they began to argue about that, which led to the violence between the two.”

According to Welsh, this is the third or subsequent time Povsha has been arrested for partner or family member assault.  He also received a misdemeanor charge for carrying a concealed weapon.
