For the fifth time, Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants will host their hometown metal legends for an annual event dubbed 'Metallica Night.' As was the case in years prior, the band's members will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and perform their rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

This year's Metallica Night is set for Monday, Aug. 7 and the game has some even more flair as the Giants will be taking on the defending World Champions the Chicago Cubs. "In what has become one of our favorite hometown traditions, we’re excited to announce that the San Francisco Giants have once again invited us to celebrate a night on the field with them," said the band in a collective statement. In addition to the pitch and performance, Metallica added that they will "be on hand all night to cheer on the orange and black as we take part of some of the between innings festivities."

Special event Metallica ticket packages will be offered, which will include a ticket to the game, a limited edition Metallica / Giants t-shirt. Before the game, drummer Lars Ulrich will also host an exclusive VIP Q&A event at Triples Alley to talk sports, music and more with Brad Gilbert (tennis coach and commentator, author). Portions of the ticket sales to both events will benefit the Posey Family Foundation.

Met Club (fan club) members will have the opportunity to purchase advance tickets for the game with a pre-sale launching at 10AM PT today (Feb. 9) by logging into the dedicated Met Club website. Triples Alley upgrades can be bought on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 10AM PT.

It's another busy year for Metallica, who recently announced they'll be joined by none other than Lady Gaga for a joint performance at this year's Grammy Awards, which airs Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8PM ET on CBS. The band has been nominated for Best Rock Song for the track "Hardwired."
