The Montana State Fire Marshall was called to Big Arm today, January 10, after a fire was reported late Tuesday night.

"At 11:03, yesterday, we were paged to smoke showing from the post office in Big Arm," said Big Arm Rural Fire Department Chief Gordon Gieser. "No firefighters were injured and we contained the fire to the area of origin within the building. In my opinion, the building is rebuildable."

Because the fire occurred at the post office, there was some disruption in mail service Wednesday as the facility was blocked off.

"We are holding the building for security and are waiting for the State Fire Marshall to arrive," Gieser said on Wednesday morning. "The post office has made arrangements for mail to this area to be delivered to the post office in Elmo and then they are working on a logistical distribution system out of there."

There has been some speculation from other firefighters that the blaze was suspicious and could be a case of arson, Chief Gieser said he would withhold comments on the origin of the fire until after the State Fire Marshall made a determination.
