Recently, it was announced that the city of Warren, Ohio planned to honor one of its own — Foo FightersDave Grohl — by presenting him with a pair of 900-pound drumsticks. The celebration took place yesterday (July 7), and while Grohl wasn’t able to attend, he found another way to express his sincere gratitude for the enormous gift.

Grohl tweeted an image via the Foo Fighters’ Twitter account yesterday of a signed thank you note to his hometown along with a photo of him wearing a “Made in Warren” T-shirt. The note reads as follows: “To the wonderful city of Warren, from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank you all so much … For the childhood memories. For my family. For my very own alley. For the world’s largest drumsticks! And for all of your support … But most of all, for being such a great community. One that makes me proud to say … I am from Warren, Ohio!” The graphic was made into a full-page feature in a local Warren newspaper.

Doug Franklin, the city’s mayor, delivered Grohl’s message at yesterday’s ceremony, which included the unveiling of the enormous poplar drumsticks. The sticks will eventually take up residence in the aforementioned David Grohl Alley, a downtown Warren roadway named after the former Nirvana drummer.
