Gavin Newsom Just Got His First Gun. Seriously.

Stop the presses! Gavin Newsom owns a gun!!!

Yep. The California Governor, who’s made a career of creating and passing gun control laws like background checks, ammo ID laws, and assault weapon bans, just got his first-ever gun placed in his hands. And not just any weapon, a Sig Sauer P365 XMACRO, presented to him on the air by the conservative podcaster and former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan. Newsom was surprised, laughed it off, and joked, “This is fabulous.”

It’s like watching a vegan tear into a piece of brisket. A little awkward at first, but actually kind of amusing.

Now, why does this matter to us here in Montana? Because the word on the street is that Newsom’s wife has family that owns a ranch in the Bitterroot. So even as he’s grabbing headlines in California, accepting a gun from a conservative, there’s a pretty good chance that gun’s just chillin’ in a safe in western Montana.

Out here in Big Sky Country, guns aren’t something controversial. They’re simply a part of life. We aren’t pearl-clutching over your new Sig. We’re just curious why it took so long. It’s all a bit like a scene from a political rom-com: liberal governor meets conservative podcaster, gets given a gun, and has a “maybe I’ve been too hard on the Second Amendment” moment.

Of course, Newsom went on to make it clear that he has no plans to shift his position. “I’m not anti-gun,” he said. “I just support common-sense gun safety.” Cool. Just understand around here, “common sense” generally means there’s a rifle in the truck and knowing how to use it.
