Last night I took a few minutes to hold my weekly crying session. No, it has nothing to do with emotions. That's just the name I've given to the time that I sit down to pay my bills. Winter always sees the electric bill go up a bit as the heat gets more of a workout compared to the rest of the year. But I saw something today that'll make us all feel better about opening our envelopes from NortWestern Energy.

Dang! That's a lot of cheddar

I thought this was an interesting bit of information as I was reading a Missoulian article about Glacier Ice Rink today. The rink usually averages between $9,000 and $10,000 for their monthly utility bill but the warmer weather we had over the last few months has made that number jump. Warmer weather means the cooling system has to work harder and that means it uses more electricity. While we were all in awe of our 60 degree days in November, it left Glacier Ice Rink with a $13,000 bill for the month. That smarts a bit! But there's your answer if you've ever wondered what it costs to keep the ice cold.

Skating has been popular so far this season

The utility bill might be high but so is the interest in skating. The Missoulian story says the numbers are strong with youth programs seeing almost 600 kids participating while a couple of weeks of public skating will start this weekend.

A couple of upcoming holiday events that are sure to be fun

Saturday is the day for fun at Glacier Ice Rink. Skate With Santa happens from 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM. Admission is $9 and skate rentals are $3. There are only 150 spots available for the session and advanced registration is required.

Santa Claus is coming to town… on his Zamboni! Join Santa on Saturday, December 18, 2021 for family fun as he skates with kids and poses for photos. The skating session runs from 12:30-2:30 pm on the outdoor rink and features holiday caroling from MPower Voices.

On Saturday evening the Ugly Sweater Skate happens from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Prices and availability are the same as the Skate With Santa event.

Show off your favorite holiday sweater at our Ugly Sweater Skate on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on our outdoor rink. The wearers of the "ugliest" sweaters will win prizes!

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.

LOOK: 50 famous memes and what they mean

With the infinite number of memes scattered across the internet, it's hard to keep track. Just when you've grasped the meaning of one hilarious meme, it has already become old news and replaced by something equally as enigmatic. Online forums like Tumblr, Twitter, 4chan, and Reddit are responsible for a majority of meme infections, and with the constant posting and sharing, finding the source of an original meme is easier said than done. Stacker hunted through internet resources, pop culture publications, and databases like Know Your Meme to find 50 different memes and what they mean. While the almost self-replicating nature of these vague symbols can get exhausting, memes in their essence can also bring people closer together—as long as they have internet access.
