A Saturday night thunderstorm started forest fires in Glacier National Park. The park has closed the western side of Going-to-the-Sun road from Lake McDonald to Logan Pass. The 18-mile section on the eastern side from St Mary entrance to Logan Pass remains open. Also, a general evacuation has been ordered for Lake McDonald Lodge and surrounding buildings.

The Howe Ridge Fire, the Heavens Sake Fire and a fire near Numa Ridge were causing the main concern from officials Sunday. The National Park Service reports evacuations for Lake McDonald Lodge, North Lake McDonald Road, and the Avalanche Creek and Sprague Campgrounds. The Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed between Lake McDonald near Apgar and Logan Pass. Officials say the temperatures this weekend reached 100 degrees. The park has more Fire Information at (406) 888-7077.
