Glen Plake and His Famous Hair Spotted on Montana Slopes
If you learned to ski in the ’90s, Glen Plake was your guy. Not because he was winning medals and appearing in fancy ski flicks (even though he did that too), but because he had a 2-foot-tall mohawk and absolutely sent it on terrain most of us wouldn’t even hike. Dude looked like punk rock and powder skiing had a baby.
Well guess what? The mohawk lives, and it just materialized at Blacktail Mountain right here in Montana.
Plake’s been out on his “Down Home Tour,” which is kind of like a giant road trip, in a big red truck, pulling into smaller ski towns and catching locals off guard by just… arriving and skiing with them. No media circus. No VIP lounge. Just Glen, his skis and that glorious hair.
According to Glen's post about the tour on Elansports.com
There are literally hundreds of these ski areas around the USA, and thousands around the world. These ski areas are not resorts - some with have less than 200 feet of vertical, but I’ve found that the smaller the hill the bigger the heart.
If you haven’t been, Blacktail is one of Montana’s under-the-radar gems. You park at the summit, ski down, and get views of Flathead Lake. It’s also the type of place where your dog is on a first-name basis with the lifties.
To see him at a place like that? It’s just a chef’s kiss. Old-school skier, meet old-school hill. No egos. Just good turns and big smiles.
So if you were there, pat yourself on the back. If you missed it, look out. Plake’s tour has no itinerary. He simply follows the snow and vibes. Which, let’s be honest, is probably the most Montanan thing a person can do.
