This Rocktober Rumble features a pair of harder edged bands not afraid to let loose, and rock radio rewarded both with plenty of airplay. But which one will move a step closer to be crowned as the Best Hard Rock Hit of the 21st Century?

Godsmack step into this battle with "I Stand Alone," a track that got an extra boost from inclusion in The Scorpion King film before the Faceless album took off. This 2002 chart-topper finds vocalist Sully Erna at his most defiant, belting with plenty of aggression. "I Stand Alone" also received a pair of Grammy nominations. Take a listen in the player provided.

In 2004, Velvet Revolver arrived on the scene, firing on all cylinders with an aggressive rocker of their own -- "Slither." With a slow burn open reminiscent of the song's title feeding into driving guitars and Scott Weiland's vocals, "Slither" became the breakout hit of the Contraband album. It stayed at No. 1 for nine weeks and won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. Revisit the song in the player below.

These songs deserved to be cranked, so after listening to the tracks, let us know which cut you want to see advance in our Rocktober Rumble battle to determine the best hard rock hit of the 21st Century. You can vote once per hour through the deadline of Monday, Oct. 17 at 10AM ET.
