Griz Return Home to Take on Southern Utah for What Could Be the Last Time

Our Montana Grizzlies are returning home this weekend to face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for the first time since 2016 and what could be their last time as Big Sky Conference foes. The number 11^th ranked Griz enter the game fresh off a seventh-straight rivalry win over the Idaho Vandals last weekend. Montana retained the “Little Brown Stein” with a convincing 34-14 win in Moscow.

The Griz will be back in Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday and the game will kickoff at noon. The Thunderbirds are 1-7 on the season and are 0-5 against Big Sky opponents. The Griz are 5-2 on the season and are 2-2 in the conference. The Thunderbirds joined the conference in 2012 and are set to depart for the WAC in 2022.

Southern Utah is giving up nearly 39 points per game, which is good news for Montana’s offense. Freshman quarterback Kris Brown has started the past three games for the Griz and the offense is starting to click at the perfect time. Brown threw for 256 yards last week against Idaho and 145 of those yards went to junior wide receiver Mitch Roberts. The last time Montana and Southern Utah played was in 2018. In that game, the Griz gained 635 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns in a 57-14 slaughter.

Saturday's game marks the first of two Griz games this season to be broadcast nationally on ROOT Sports. The annual "Brawl of the Wild" game against Montana State will also be broadcast on ROOT Sports. In Missoula, ROOT is available on Spectrum cable channel 60 and HD channel 560, and on DIRECTV channel 687 and 688.
