The Missoula County Health Department confirmed a new positive test for COVID 19 in Missoula on Monday.

Incident Commander Cindy Farr provided the information.

“We have one new positive case,” said Farr. “We were able to ascertain from our investigation that this new positive case was related to out of state travel. We’re still doing pretty well here in Missoula, but I do want to encourage everyone to continue to do those safe practices because we are starting to see a pretty big increase in cases around the state right now.”

Farr also addressed the issue of confronting those involved in the Black Lives Matter protests about wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

“We actually were trying to obtain masks to hand out to protesters, while members of our staff were going over to remind them about social distancing,” she said. “However, as many of you probably know, wherever there’s a protest we are not law enforcement and there’s no way to force someone to do something. All we can do is to remind people of those safety measures and precautions.”

Farr said there are new additions to the many symptoms of COVID 19 from the Centers for Disease Control.

“The symptoms that were added include congestion or runny nose, headache and fatigue,” she said.  “So, the entire list of symptoms include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches that are unexplained, headache, new loss of taste or smell, and that’s important because we don’t know that to be a symptom of other diseases, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea and vomiting or diarrhea.”

Farr said the health department is interested to find out if anyone who had recovered from COVID 19 had contracted the virus again, which might lead to the possibility of it being what is termed a ‘rolling virus’. Those who have tested positive are not required to stay in touch with the health department, unless they do test positive again.
